SENIOR CLASS TRIP TO PENNSYLVANIA – 09-30 to 10-4 2019

Early on September 30th cars began to enter the church parking lot where the brown van awaited 10 persons for the long anticipated trip to PA to see “JESUS” AT Sight & Sound in Lancaster.  Our first destination was Camp Calvary in Bernville that we would be calling home for three more days.  The setting was certainly scenic and we all found our rooms to be beautifully decorated, spacious and inviting.  Our “crew” was looking forward to relaxing in the “Upper Room” – a large area with a small kitchen and a large lounging area – so comfortable it was hard to get back into the van to pick up Pastor’s mother and continue on to have supper at an Amish restaurant.  Needless to say, we were ready to get back to “home base” and slumber came easy after a long ride!

Tuesday morning Pastor’s brother, Jonathan and their mother, arrived in his big white van to bring us to Sight & Sound. Once there, we were joined by Pastor’s Aunt and Uncle.  We easily found our seats in the balcony.  The production was so magnificent I would not be able to describe it!

After the performance, we boarded the white van and Jonathan drove us through the countryside. He had made previous arrangements to be guests at an Amish farm.  Rachel and Samuel King and their family grow tobacco for revenue as well as taking care of their livestock consisting of cows and donkeys.  Rachel prepares and serves a luncheon that is beyond excellent.  She and her daughter were also preparing to serve a larger group that afternoon.  Her menu was (hope I can include all) freshly baked that morning – bread; peanut butter fluff or butter; peas; corn; creamy mashed potatoes; chow-chow; meatloaf; chicken casserole; freshly baked pumpkin custard pie; show-fly-pie; ice cream; choice of coffee, milk or water. Multiple bowls of food were filled and we were encouraged to feast until we had enough (or too much).  Amish families do not have electricity in their homes but use propane and generators for powering their necessities.  The home, barns and surrounding yard and field are tidy and the flowers, tended by the younger children are weedless!

Early evening found us back at our “home” and everyone gathered in the “Upper Room” for some very lively fellowship.

We sadly bid this fantastic day goodbye and prepared to rise early to go to a buffet breakfast at Shady Maple. After breakfast, time was allotted to go downstairs to the gift shop. After loading back onto our brown van, we made stops at an Amish market and an Amish general store. When we returned “home” we snacked on food that we purchased.  Again, our tired crew fellowshipped and retired early in preparation for our trip back to NH.

All who enjoyed this experience thank Pastor and Kim for making all the arrangements.

A very special thank you to Michael and Jess Meihle for donating the use of their big brown van for our trip!
