Introduction to Galatians (Galatians 1:1-5)

Stephen Weaver, October 2, 2016
Part of the Galatians series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

This Sunday morning we begin a new series in the book of Galatians. We will be looking at verses 1-5 of chapter 1. This is a letter where Paul speaks very abruptly and forcefully throughout, more so than any of his other letters. His frustration is from what has been happening with the new believers in the churches in southern Galatia that he and Barnabas started. They were being influenced by people who were propagating a gospel, but were also adding works, like circumcision and living according to the laws of Moses, saying they were necessary for salvation and growth in Christ. Sunday morning we will look at Paul’s brief salutation (1-5), and his lifting up the gospel and pointing to the grace and peace given by God to those in Christ Jesus. More on all this Sunday morning…
