Laws Concerning Servitude (Exodus 21:1-11)

Part of the Exodus series, preached at a Sunday Evening service

On Sunday evening, we continue our series in the book of Exodus, looking at chapter 21 verse 1-11. Now we have further parts of the law written down by Moses instead of “on tables of stone by the finger of God.” It’s interesting that God first addresses slavery in this passage. What is slavery in the Bible? It is much different than America’s slavery history, and general slavery throughout history. We would be better off calling it servitude: as a contract between employer and employee. Sunday evening I will explain servanthood, “slavery”, so that you understand what the Bible means when speaking about it.
